MEGHAN ORTEGA
Meghan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a deep passion for supporting children and families through healing. She graduated in 2018 from Wayland Baptist University with a Master’s in Counseling and has been working with children and their caregivers ever since. Meghan is also proudly endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Specialist.
Meghan started with Small Steps in 2019 and works extensively with infants, children and their caregivers to support families affected by life changes, stress, and trauma. She takes a compassionate, evidence-based approach to therapy, grounded in a thorough understanding of child development and family dynamics. Through this approach, Meghan helps families navigate the healing process, fostering stronger, more supportive relationships.
In the middle of 2023, Meghan took a brief hiatus from counseling to contribute to the Albuquerque community by working with the homeless population in a hospital based setting for behavioral health. This experience allowed her to broaden her skillset and deepen her understanding of the diverse challenges individuals face. However, Meghan felt a strong pull to return to her true passion— counseling and working with children and their primary caregivers—and she has since rejoined Small Steps with renewed dedication.
Her mission is to guide families on a journey toward healing, restoration, and emotional resilience. Meghan believes that every family is unique, and she tailors her work to meet the specific needs of infants, children, teens, and their caregivers, ensuring a supportive, culturally sensitive, and reflective therapeutic experience.
