GLENDA MURPHY

Glenda Murphy is originally from Albuquerque and surrounding areas.  She is happy to have returned to New Mexico.  Her inspiration to become a counselor started with a counselor who helped her early in life.  Glenda received her undergraduate psychiatry degree at the University of New Mexico followed by an MA of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Alabama.  Her interests include caring for LGBTQI and non-binary people, suicide prevention and harm reduction.  She believes that one’s mental health is affected by many aspects of their history and their environment.  She believes that the therapeutic relationship can be beneficial whether someone is having a good day or a bad day.  One does not have to be doing well or doing poorly to benefit from counseling.  Her approach involves trauma informed therapy for whole families, modeling boundaries, improving communication and growth in parenting skills.  Approaches are customized to the individual and the situation and can include cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy and play therapy.  Additionally, she equips clients with plans, goals and strategies to employ between sessions.
