Purpose: This position oversees the operations of an assigned Small Steps Child Counseling (SSCC) program, while also providing clinical oversight and quality assurance to non independently licensed clinical staff and interns who provide behavioral health care services to SSCC clients. The Clinical Program Supervisor drives the success of the assigned program. This individual is also legally responsible for adherence to all applicable licensing, supervision, billing, documentation requirements, and overseeing the timeliness and quality of assigned SSCC therapist’s clinical work. The individual in this role will remain consistently aligned to SSCC’s culture, making communication, recognition, and collaboration the highest priorities. 

 

Essential Functions: An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation. 

  • Work independently and in conjunction with the SSCC leadership team to design and promote the assigned program, designing program training, and administering the program on a day-to-day basis. 

  • Perform quality control review of supervisee clinical progress notes, treatment plans, treatment summaries and other clinical documents, and provide feedback, training, and support to supervisees to ensure compliance in this area within defined productivity standards  

  • Ensure that supervisees comply with all legal and ethical practices, co- signing on unlicensed clinicians’ progress notes, clinical forms, and correspondence as a legal representative of SSCC; 

  • Engage in risk management, managing and monitoring safety protocol used by supervisees, reporting to Clinical Director when mandatory reporting situations arise and/or questions regarding whether a mandatory reporting situation may have arisen.  

  • Provide administrative oversight and monitoring of billable hours requirement for supervisees, offering support, training, and remediation where needed to assist supervisees in meeting the agency’s billing expectations and caseload requirements; 

  • Provide one hour per week of 1:1 supervision with each supervisee that supports the clinician’s professional growth, exploring their therapeutic 

approaches and techniques with clients, engages in reflective practice of their work with children and families, and supports their case conceptualization process. Supervision must meet clinical case support requirements and be properly documented in weekly notes; 

  • Engage each supervisee in goal-setting and develop a supervisory plan geared toward achieving their professional goals and addressing any identified opportunities for growth. Be sure to continuously tie supervision to the supervisory plan; 

  • Whenever necessary, support supervisees in advocating for themselves should concerns regarding SSCC policies or practices arise while offering perspective on agency interests and goals where appropriate; Communicate openly with the Clinical Director regarding any concerns that arise; 

  • Provide coverage for other supervisors as needed and arrange for coverage of Clinical Program Supervisor’s own caseload in advance of an anticipated absence.  

  • Facilitate group supervision/training as assigned by the Clinical Director based upon SSCC need and individual areas of expertise/specialization and organization need. 

  • Complete required licensure paperwork for supervisees who are working toward independent licensure and maintain board supervisor approval for both the New Mexico Counseling board and New Mexico Social Work Board; 

  • Attend weekly 1:1 supervision with Clinical Director 1 hour per week  to explore role as a supervisor, engage in reflective process around supervisor/supervisee relationships, and get support for case conceptualization; 

  • Attend weekly 1.5 hour supervisory team meeting to collaborate and consult with colleagues regarding job tasks and pertinent topics related to the agency, individual supervisees, particular cases within the agency, and engage in reflective practice around supervisor role; 

  • Participate in periodic mandatory trainings as directed by Clinical Director. 

  • Participate in performance management of supervisees by completing scheduled performance evaluations, and partnering with People Operations to develop and implement performance improvement plans, documented coaching, or other remedial action when needed; 

  • Effectively supervise and manage supervisees, providing clear direction that will support the agency; 

  • Field escalated client matters utilizing problem-solving skills, de-escalation techniques, and reframing to ensure exceptional patient service. Escalate to Clinical Director when needed; 

  • Demonstrate ethical and legal conduct at all times and guide supervisees to do the same; 

  • Demonstrate deep respect for SSCC policies and procedures and guide supervisees to do the same; 

  • Work with the Clinical Director to ensure organizational compliance with clinical audit standards; 

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable laws/rules/regulations that govern SSCC’s clinical operations; 

  • Drive compliance with all clinical legal requirements, internal policies, and quality standards; 

  • Demonstrate flexibility as well as excellent time management, communication, and leadership skills; 

  • Effectively communicate within all utilized systems (email, Microsoft Teams, phone communication, Therapy Notes); 

  • Manage/coordinate special projects as assigned; 

  • Provide a minimum of 4+ sessions per week to SSCC clients as determined by Clinical Director based on current agency needs and a minimum of 30+ worked hours and maintain a minimum of 6-7 interns in Intern Program carrying a minimum of 5 clients each; and 2-3 NIL supervisees; 

  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality; 

  • All SSCC employees are expected to be able to handle a reasonable amount of work stress and to possess the interpersonal skills of self-care and self-reflection to foster healthy communication and relationships in the workplace; and

Minimum Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, Experience, & Skills: 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work with current New Mexico LCSW behavioral health care license; 

  • At least two (2) years clinical experience post-licensure; 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, IOS, and experience with electronic health record software; 

  • Excellent communication and people skills; 

  • Demonstrated clinical experience providing behavioral health services to clients who have complex, multiple diagnosis histories; 

  • Experienced in providing parent support and family therapy to children and adolescents; and 

  • Clinical training and experience with trauma informed treatment models and interventions for children and families with complex trauma. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience: 

  • 2+ years of experience as a supervisor of clinical work; 

  • 2+ years of experience in project management; 

  • Bilingual and multilingual skills. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the role while physically present in an office environment. No adverse environmental conditions are expected in the role. 

  • The role is sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. 

  • Employee must occasionally adjust or move objects in all directions. 

  • Employee must frequently move self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. 

  • Employee must constantly be able to communicate with others to exchange information. 

  • Employee must constantly engage in repeating motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers (such as typing). 

  • Employee may have to travel from location to location, and may have to operate a vehicle on behalf of employer. 

  • Employee must have the ability to complete tasks in an environment where interruptions are the norm and background noise may be present

Pay is Offered Based on License and SSCC Approved Certifications and Endorsements:  
 
Annual Leave: 
The Employee at full time eligibility status shall be entitled to accrue Annual Leave up to 4 weeks leave per year.
