Parent Management Training (PMT)
Parent Management Training (PMT) is a behaviorally focused program, typically spanning 11-15 sessions, aimed at supporting parents of children who are diagnosed with ADHD or who have challenging behaviors related to another diagnosis. PMT specifically emphasizes the use of positive reinforcement (praise and rewards) to increase appropriate behaviors and setting limits (removing attention) to decrease inappropriate behaviors.
In PMT parents will learn positive skills to implement with their child, techniques for reinforcing positive behaviors and decreasing unwanted behaviors, and ways to improve the parent-child relationship.
